Porter’s Paints x PTW

To replicate the psychological transformation of being “reborn” we will be referencing colour strategies from a variety of influences such as Johannes Itten, Joseph Albers, Sanzo Wada. We plan on experimenting with colour action, layering and in turn creating a journey of colour interaction.

We will be using a curated composition of colour to guide individuals on a journey in which they will feel a sense of renewal upon completion. It is hoped that the colour selection will evoke contemplation with moments of surprise and delight followed by resolution. According to colour theorists Stephen Palmer and Karen Schloss and the ecological valence theory, humans have a biological and bias response to colour. In general, it is accepted that warm colors such as red, yellow and orange can evoke emotions such as comfort and warmth to hostility and anger. Cool colors such as green, blue and purple often spark feelings of calmness as well as sadness.

The general flow of colours will reflect the responses to covid e.g., comfortable, proceeding to colours evoking surprise and shock, to anger and then finally calmness and acceptance.

A regeneration through the process of colour!
