Joel Savage spent his childhood at the family factory, surrounded by metal bars, grease and the noise of hot metal being cut into intricate shapes. In these early days he found a passion for making. Often being the first on the factory floor and the last to leave he enjoyed using his hands to create objects. His father would often give him products like old telephones, telling him to disassemble them and then reassemble. This was the introduction to a lifelong love of understanding how things are designed and made.
Having first-hand experience in manufacturing Joel decided to formally extend his knowledge of designing at university studying Industrial Design. While learning about methodologies of product design he also discovered the concept of design management.
Alongside fellow designer James Groom, Joel is responsible for the design and dreaming up of new products produced by Savage Design. When he is not working alongside James, he can be found in the factory designing either manufacturing or management processes.
