John Bornas is the Creative Director of Workroom. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, John’s attitude towards design is founded on the idea of language and narrative. Graduating from the University of Melbourne in 1995, John, together with Jo-Anne Gleeson founded Workroom in 1999. The practice has since established itself at the forefront of residential architecture and interiors with a reputation for highly considered bespoke solutions for homes that transcend the notions of fashion.

The studio’s approach focuses on a sense of wonder and awareness, through a rigorous understanding of space, form and material. Each commission is conceived as an evolution, unfolding a three dimensional language that tells the story of the house and its family. Workroom has been recognised globally in print and digital media, with the studio’s work often nominated for and winning local and international awards. John’s commitment to the industry has seen him lecture at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Melbourne and Swinburne University. His hands on approach to architecture has led to a deep connection between design and construction ensuring the delivery of each project is rooted in its architectural narrative. He sees architecture a being art with a purpose.
